Dr. Cindy Jardine is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Health and Community at the University of the Fraser Valley. She was formerly a Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta for many years. Her research is in the area of health risk communication, which she interprets to broadly encompass the different perspectives people have on the risks in their lives, how these are shaped through communication and different types of information, and what is needed to promote informed decision-making and action. She uses a participatory and transdisciplinary approach involving primarily qualitative and arts-based methods. The majority of her research focuses on at-risk and equity-deserving populations. Dr. Jardine has extensive experience working with Indigenous populations (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) on research related to trust, Indigenous determinants of health, and strength-based approaches. Much of her research has involved youth and health promotion. Recently, she has been working on developing and Indigenizing novel means of engaging community members and promoting wellness (e.g. Forum Theatre, virtual reality, 3D storytelling and game platforms).
